2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid
Meet The Honda Clarity

The 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid recently ranked among the top in its class for its all-electric range. The announcement came after the EPA released fuel economy testing details, stating that among all mid-size plug-in hybrids, the Honda Clarity could go the furthest on a single charge. Drivers of the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid can go 47 miles on pure electricity—more than enough for the average driver to commute to work and back.

340 Miles On Gas, Plus 110 On Electricity

According to The News Wheel, the 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid has seating for up to five people and an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 110 MPGe.* Under the hood is a 1.5-liter engine that powers an electric motor. You can go up to 340 miles on a single tank of gas, and the 17-kWh battery pack can recharge in just 2.5 hours.

Seats Up To Five

“We think the combination of a class-leading 47 miles of all-electric driving range rating and a large, luxurious 5-pasenger package will give us an advantage in the plug-in hybrid game,” said Ray Mikiciuk, assistant vice president of Honda Auto Sales at American Honda Motor Co. “The Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid represents the dawn of a new era, setting the path to a new generation of Honda products that will bring electrified technology into the mainstream.”

181 Horsepower

In addition to great fuel economy, the new 2018 Clarity Plug-In Hybrid produces 181 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. That means you get great gas mileage without sacrificing power—a perfect combination. Learn more about the Honda Clarity at Brighton Honda in Brighton, MI.

How to Know if You Need New Tires

Know if You Need New Tires

Your vehicle’s tires act as a mobility, safety, and performance feature that no driver can afford to ignore. Worn tires can become a major hazard on long road trips and in bad weather. It’s important to get a new set of tires once the old ones are worn. Here are a few ways to know if you need new tires from us here at Brighton Honda.

Quarter Test

Tread wear is a common cause for tire replacement. Unfortunately, eying your tire tread isn’t too accurate. On the bright side, there’s a simple test that will only require a quarter. Simply place the quarter head first into the tread grooves. If you can see the top of Washington’s head, then the treads are worn to the point where you need new tires.

Wear and Tear

Tire wear and tear is common, especially in hot and cold climates. Extreme weather conditions can cause the tire’s structure to change, leading to abnormalities like cracks and bulges in the walls. Both abnormalities are signs that you need to replace the tire as soon as possible.

Age

Like most car parts, tires need to be replaced as they age. Most manufacturers recommend replacing your tires once they reach their sixth year. Make sure to check the manufacturer’s recommendations for your specific set of tires!

Camping Tips for Experienced Campers: What You Might Not Know

camping tipsAlmost all of the Hondas that we sell at Brighton Honda have plenty of room in them for tents, sleeping bags, and coolers. This summer, take advantage of your spacious vehicle and the beautiful weather; find a camping ground near you and use these camping tips for the perfect weekend in nature.

Save your dryer lint

You may be thinking: Um, what? But dryer lint is actually a must-have when camping, as it’s the perfect fire starter. So while your neighbors are sifting through wet leaves for kindling, you’ll be set with your baggie of dryer lint.

Bring comfortable folding chairs

In the hustle to pack gear for sleeping and cooking, one can easily forget to pack gear for sitting. Remember to bring some folding chairs so that when the fire is roaring, you’ll have a nice place to relax.

Don’t forget plastic bags

It seems like no matter how many grocery bags, Ziploc bags, and other containers one brings, there’s always a use for each. Whether you use it to collect trash, store a muddy pair of shoes, or wrap up your leftover dinner, you’ll be happy to have these useful objects at your campsite.

Bring hand cleaner

Many campsites have bathrooms and some include hand washing stations. But it’s always nice to have hand sanitizer or soap handy when you’re feeling grimy in a pinch. When you’re packing for your camping trip, think ahead of all the things you might want—like hand sanitizer—and make a list that you can save for your next trip, too.

If you’re looking for a new or used car to stuff all that camping gear into, just let us know at Brighton Honda and we’ll find you the vehicle to make your summer even better.

How to Wax Your Vehicle: A Starting Guide

Wax Your Vehicle

If you recently purchased a new Honda from Brighton Honda, you no doubt want to take good care of it. Taking care of your car is just as important on the outside as it is underneath the hood. To protect your car from paint damage, rust, and corrosion, you should wax your vehicle every three to six months. Not only does a good polish protect your car, but it makes it look pretty darn good, too.

Step 1 – Gather Supplies

You’ll need an orbital buffer—easily obtainable online for as low as $30—buffing pads, buffing compound, as well as a kit with polish, wax, and microfiber cloths.

Step 2 – Buff

Look over your vehicle’s exterior for areas with scratches or obvious damage. Smooth plenty of buffing compound over these areas, spreading it evenly with the buffing pad. Then, turn on your buffer and work over these areas in circular motions

Step 3 – Wax

Place a new buffer pad on your buffer and apply the wax by gently pulsing your buffer, rather than leaving it on. Leaving your buffer on as you did with buffing may cause the wax to cake on unevenly. Complete one section of your car at a time, and then remove the wax using circular motions with a microfiber cloth. Repeat this on one section of your vehicle at a time until you’ve achieved a new, polished look all over your car.

Tips for Driving in Rain and Strong Winds

Driving in rain and strong winds can be scary, especially if you drive a small, lightweight car that tends to get knocked around. Here are some tips for staying safe in rainy and windy weather.

When it’s just windy, without rain, the biggest problem you’ll have is big gusts of wind. You just need to keep both hands firmly on the wheel at all times and anticipate the gusts. As soon as you feel the car moving in a direction you didn’t steer it, pull it back to the middle of the lane. You should also keep an eye out for long vehicles like semi-trucks and RVs, since they have less control in the wind.

When you’re driving in rain, the most important thing to do is slow down. The slower you’re going, the less likely you are to skid or hydroplane. Driving slower also makes it easier to stop suddenly. You should also leave more room between yourself and vehicles in front of you so that if you do need to stop suddenly, you run a lower risk of running into them.

Always turn your headlights on when it’s raining. Low visibility increases the risk of a crash and lights not only help you see, they help other drivers see you.
