For the longest time, there were foreign cars that just weren’t available to drivers in the United States; the Civic Type R was one of those cars. However, there’s good news for Honda fans everywhere. The Civic Type R is coming to the United States this spring. Here’s everything that you need to know about this highly anticipated vehicle.
For those who do not know, the Civic Type R is a specialty vehicle created by Honda that was previously limited to countries outside the United States.
“The fastest, most powerful Honda ever sold in America, the Type R caps off the incredible success story of our 10th-generation Civic lineup,” Jeff Conrad, a senior vice president at American Honda Motor Co., said in a statement. “We’re happy to inform our US enthusiasts that the long wait for the forbidden fruit of Honda Type R performance is nearly over.”
Drivers will not be disappointed. Under the hood, they’ll find a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that gets an impressive 306 horsepower.

The Honda Civic is back, and in its 10th generation, it promises to be the most exciting version yet. Sportier, sleeker, more powerful, and more feature-packed than the outgoing model, the 2016 Honda Civic sets the benchmark even higher for the compact sedan segment. The world’s favorite compact car just got even better.
Completely rebuilt, the 2016 Honda Civic’s updates are abundant. New head-to-toe styling, available HondaSensing™ suite of advanced safety features, and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility are just a few of the exciting updates. Additionally, the new Civic is built on a platform that creates the largest cabin available in the compact class.
Honda is also offering two new engine options for the 2016 Honda Civic, including a 2.0-liter, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC™ 4-cylinder, and a 1.5-liter, direct-injected and turbocharged 16-valve DOHC inline-4. The 2.0-liter engine is the most powerful base engine ever offered on Civic, and the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine marks the first time a Honda turbo engine is available in the U.S.
“This tenth-generation Civic is quite simply the most ambitious remake of Civic we’ve ever done,” said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co, Inc. in a statement. “We are bringing more new technology and innovative thinking to Civic than ever before to establish a new benchmark for fun-to-drive performance, fuel efficiency, safety performance and refinement in the compact class.”
The Honda Civic has been one of the most popular compact sedans in the US since it launched in 1973. It should come as no surprise, then, that the new, completely redesigned 2016 Civic is highly anticipated. Since the big reveal will happen simultaneously in Detroit and Los Angeles on September 16th, here at Willet Honda South, we are currently putting together our wish list of the 2016 Honda Civic updates we hope to see.
Improved fuel economy. The Civic has been a long-time leader in fuel economy, thanks to its small size, light-weight design, and superior driving dynamics. We expect to see Honda step it up even further with the new 2016 Civic, with highway averages easily reaching 40 mpg across the lineup.
More power. Honda has already promised that the 2016 Civic will get a new 1.5-liter engine, and a turbocharged option will now become part of the lineup. We expect the next Civic to offer enhanced sporty driving dynamics and power.
Updated design. We expect that Honda will offer a refreshed, refined, and sporty exterior design, and offer high-end upgrades inside. We expect the dash to get significant updates with premium materials and an improved design.
Only time will tell what the 2016 Honda Civic actually has in store, so stay tuned for more information when the automaker officially unveils its new Civic next week!
