The Honda Civic is an American classic, offering a practical design that’s great for your everyday commute, as well as cross-country road trips. Now, for the 2017 model year, Honda announced the first-ever Civic Type R. This performance sedan gets up to 306 horsepower when properly equipped, and it’s the most powerful production Honda has ever sold in the US. The team here at Brighton Honda couldn’t be more excited about the new Civic Type R.
The Honda Civic Type R is the first of its kind, with a 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injected turbocharged i-VTEC® engine that generates up to 306 horsepower at 6,500 RPM. That engine also gets up to 295 lb-ft of torque, and it recently set a record-breaking lap time for a production front-wheel drive car at the world-famous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany. The Civic Type R completed a lap in just 7 minutes and 43.80 seconds on April 7, 2017.
The Honda Civic Type R has a few new features to improve performance, says Honda. For example, the Type R has a short-throw six-speed manual transmission with a helical limited-slip differential for better power around turns and better acceleration. You also get 245/30ZR20 Continental SportContact 6 high-performance tires, Brembo® brakes, and a special Type R chassis to optimize speed and handling. Those are just some of the many new performance features on the Civic Type R.
